The Business of Makeup Tips

Have you ever thought of going into business selling makeup? Many people do it through Avon and Mary Kay cosmetics. But those are established companies that will only give you a commission on your sales. Now there is nothing wrong with selling a big company’s product and making a commission. Actually, you have minimal risk since you don’t have to worry about inventory and cost of sales. But if you have ever been in business or went to business school, you know the saying, “the higher the risk, the higher the reward.” But how many of us go into a business venture willing to take the big risks only to find ourselves a mile deep in debt because our risk was too high. Yes, for every actor that makes it on the big screen, there are 100,000 other actors who tried and failed.

I am by no means trying to discourage you from starting your own makeup business if that is what you want to do. However, there are risks involved that most of us never realize until it is too late. But instead of the headaches involved in manufacturing, warehousing, marketing and then distributing makeup (for example), have you ever thought of being a makeup tips consultant? Given that most women already have their own style of makeup, maybe all they need is for someone to tell them how to apply it based on their wardrobe, the season, or the situation.

Most people don’t realize that there is a huge market for providing makeup tips to women of all ages and backgrounds. If you can familiarize yourself with all the types of makeup as well as the manufacturers, you may be able to provide a valuable service to a lot of people. And if you don’t think the makeup industry is alive and well, just take a look at the women in your office, workplace, school, or shopping center. You will find that a huge majority of them are wearing makeup. And just maybe a few of them need tips on how to wear it.

Tips for Applying Airbrush Makeup

Airbrush makeup has been popular ever since the 1930s when MGM studios employed the method on hundreds of extras appearing in the movie “Ben Hur.” Since then, the technique has been refined to the point that you can now get the same fantastic results at home in your own bathroom.

To get started, you will need to have an airbrush, an air compressor, special foundation makeup for airbrushing,  and a mask to protect sensitive areas of your face like the eyes. It is also best to have someone assist you with the process since it is necessary to keep your eyes closed while the makeup is being sprayed on your face.

It is a good idea to experiment with colors ahead of time by spraying them on a sheet of clean paper. The effect will not be exactly the same as on human skin but it will be close enough to give you a good idea of what the finished product will look like.

The makeup is applied in layers and the idea is to start with a light coat of makeup and add layers as needed. Use a controlled, light touch with the airbrush wand for each layer and make sure the area is completely dry before you apply the next one. Remember, you can always add more layers to achieve a richer color but you cannot remove color without starting all over.

The vertical area of the face between the forehead and the chin is known as the T-zone and since this area is typically oily, you are likely to need more coverage in this area. Carefully review any instructional materials that were included with your airbrush makeup kit to make sure that you safely execute the application process.

With the tools available today, it has never been easier to put your best face forward.

Asian Bridal Makeup Suggestions

Whether in the spirit of a themed wedding or a traditional ceremony, Asian weddings are much different from contemporary American ceremony.  Brides are intended to look radiant, yet are not the same focal part of the wedding as their American counterparts.  Instead, the bride is not expected to be overdressed or over glamorized to the extent that is usually anticipated.  Makeup for the bride (or bridesmaids) must accentuate features and cover blemishes without appearing too fabricated.

Like most weddings, it is recommended to invest in the Asian wedding makeup procedures well ahead of the ceremony.  A few weeks or even months in advance, the bride and bridesmaids should all prepare for the big day by coordinating their treatments and products.  Ensure that every person’s skin, hair, and teeth are all in good condition via facials, highlights, and whitening.

While it is best to have makeup applied by a professional (especially an Asian makeup artist), not every wedding can afford the best preparation, and makeup artists can command top dollar.  As such, have trial sessions of all makeup arrays and ensure each woman in the procession has the right procedure.  Above all, make sure the makeup colors do not clash with the outfits, which are often more colorful and at a higher risk of “clashing” than traditional American all-white wedding gowns.

At the big day, moisturize all affected areas of skin, especially the lips and eyebrows.  Pluck any excess hairs from the brows and color to accentuate the framing of the eyes.  Make sure concealers blend with skin color and the sheen is not too revealing under the brightest lights.  If a professional photographer is taking pictures, ask him or her what the best applications are to avoid looking artificial in the pictures.  In many Asian weddings, brides use skin patterns of floral or lacy arrays, which may not show on photos.  These patterns are called henna, and are arranged to show respect to a family or symbolize an event.

Regardless of the complexity and budget of the wedding, the best Asian makeup tips are to prepare for the realities and limitations of the details of an Asian wedding, plan out your makeup to look lovely but not draw undue attention to yourself, and get help from a makeup technician with experience in catering to Asian needs.
